Okanagan Athletics Club: Throws for Autism Meet Information
What is Throws for Autism?
This is the first year Throws for Autism will be in Kelowna, it is a charity event in which funds raised will be donated to Autism Okanagan.
How does it work?
Think of it like a walk-a-thon, each athlete is responsible for fundraising for the distance they throw (i.e. John throws 8m in shotput, his parents sponsored him with $5/meter, 8m x $5= $40 for Autism Okanagan.) Another option is for sponsors to donate a flat rate (i.e. John’s Aunt donates $20 to John for participating in this event). You can get sponsorships from family members or friends. The minimum donation for an athlete to fundraise is $30. We ask all athletes to obtain their sponsorship money at minimum 1-week after the event and to contact Meet Director Jodi Langley on where to meet up to get it.
Sponsorship forms can be found on okac.ca under News & Events—Throws for Autism.
When is it?
April 7, 2018 @ 1:00 p.m. Set schedule will be released a week prior. Registration Deadline is April 1, 2018
What events will be offered?
Shotput, Javelin and Discus for all age groups and genders. This meet will be a sanctioned event.
Who can participate?
Anyone! The idea behind this event is to bring people together to support a great cause. We are hoping to get some middle school and high school athletes out to showcase what throwing is all about! There will be prizes for the top 3 athletes who fundraised the most!
If you or your sponsors have any questions please contact Jodi Langley by e-mail at
