Local teen Kayla, and her friend Kylah, were part of the Junior Volunteer Program at Arion Therapeutic Farm and became friends through it!
Hi I’m Kayla. I’ve been coming to Arion since January 2017, and I was part of the Junior Volunteer Program this summer. Arion has always been a safe place for me.
Being around the animals always brightens my mood, even if I’ve been having a bad day. Arion has bettered both my mental and physical health. As part of the JV Program, I mainly mucked and fed animals and did odd chores like prepping things for events.
My favourite thing, honestly, was mucking in the fields with the animals because the animals would sometimes come and say hi to me.
For myself, Kylah, Arion has been my safe place as well. It’s allowed me to smile and laugh during my darkest moments. I’ve struggled tons, more ways than one, but Arion has helped me get back on my feet.
I love animals, so I started off with volunteering back in July 2016 and then started riding in August 2016. It’s such a beautiful and welcoming place; the animals, staff and people in the JV program – they’re all like family and amazing friends to me.
In fact, my favourite part of the JV Program was that everyone is so friendly and they all treat you like family.
